During RP1, most
of the time the participants were really quiet. They were not talkative and
rarely chat with each other. Given the experience of RP1, we decided to reform
the content of the games and also the structure of the whole story. First of
all, the professor said that our context was not clear enough and the dialogues
we had designed were not like what savage people would say. As a result, we
decided that we would call the participants by their appearance or dressing
instead of their names since savage people did not care about specific names.
And we added an argument over the dragons at the very beginning of our games
before we talked to the participants in order to imply our savage
characteristics.
Moreover, as for
my part, I read the outline of the Lord of the Flies again and added some
important elements in my monologue. For example I added the parts that Ralph
was the leader but he was a coward and I decided to kill him. I set the forest
on fire and asked the dragons to fight with Ralph. Finally he escaped to the
beach and was rescued by the British navy. Besides, in order to create
connection to Nancy’s game, I suggested that Nancy could also star as Ralph.
Ralph was rescued and went back to England. However due to the fire and the
attack from dragons, he was too injured especially his sexual organ and brain. The
doctor removed his sexual organ and turned him into a woman, Maria Nancy. And
sometimes Maria could not remember things easily such as the Christmas song.
As for the
revision of the game, I added another Chinese tongue twister to make the game
more challenging. I told the participants that the language was our savage
dialect. This one was much harder for international students. At first, I would
let all the participants read out the first tongue twister, Peter Piper, by
turns. And then they needed to run to touch the conch and read out the Chinese tongue
twister.
May 20th 2016 was the date we did
the RP2. At the beginning, it took some time to fix the technical problems. When
it came to my turn, I kept asking the participants questions to have
interaction with them. And I also asked the three participants to read the
peter piper tongue twister first. Then I asked them to walk back to stand at
the same level. The competition began once I said I, 2, 3. I tried to make the
atmosphere more energetic so I kept saying ‘’Run run run!’’ and asked the two
foreign students to touch the conch even though Mita was the first one touching
the conch. So Mosenge ran to touch the conch and finish the tongue twister
before Mita.
I think the
revision of task 3 made the participants have more chances to speak. The game
was more difficult which could raise their interest. And the revision of the
plot made the whole project in Second life more comprehensive.
