Reflection of RP1&2
About RP1
The first activity, I
did not do a great job as I did not say something to make the visitors feel
free to interact with me. I firstly want them to type, because I think it will
be easier to see what they are doing, but it turns out to be a wrong decision.
Truly, the visitors all try to type, but the atmosphere is quiet weird, because
all the visitors seem to be so quiet when they are typing. And I originally
think they will discuss about the answer, but they did not, and I think the
reason is that, just like one of the visitor tells me, that the question is too
easy, so they did not think is necessary to discuss with others.
Also, I did not do
very well in embodying my role as Robinson in the game. I should make more
details in my design about the characters to make the visitors get the idea
about who exactly I am in the role play.
About RP2
In the second
activity, I change my script which provides more information about Robinson,
for example, I mention that Robinson’s hometown is in England. And he loves adventure
that is why he spends more time outside England in his whole life. And I also
change my outfit with a parrot on my shoulder, because after I read the review
about the novel Robinson Crusoe, I
found that Robinson keeps a parrot after he builds he own shelter in the island
where he floats to.
Moreover, I change a
little bit of my game to make it more difficult to solve, though it still does
not successfully provoke the visitors to discuss, the question still make them
take a short time to think. Also, I changed the interactive methods in the
second activity. I start to use the question like “Can someone give me some response?”
to make them response and interact with me. And it turns out that the condition
is better than the first time.
Group Works
Last time, I and my
group members did not do well in making our activities to be really consistent.
So we try to have a little drama at the very beginning, but I don’t know
whether the visitors get the idea about the drama, because they seem to be a
little bit confused about what we are doing at that moment. But the little
drama does help to make the atmosphere better than the first time. Also, we
change the script of the interlude, and I think it is more interesting than
last time, and thus the interlude of all the separate activity seems not too
abrupt.
Difficulties
It is hard for me to
create a game for the visitors to interact with me. I have once come up with
the idea about AVG games in which people have to use the tools to survive, but
it will be too difficult since I have no skills in writing a computer programs
by myself. And it is also too expensive to buy those combat systems on the
market in doing AVG game, so I did not adopt this idea. And I think it will be
too hard for the international students who are not really familiar with the
manipulation of Second Life. But then the outcome is that I design a game that
is too easy. I also met a lot of difficulties in designing my character which
should be consistent with my role as Robinson. But what I learn the best is
also from designing the game and role in preparing these two activities.
