Preface

Location- Savage garden

R: It’s my turn to ride the dragon today.

J: No, I want to ride it now.

R: We have to follow the rule and take turns.

J: Who cares about the rule.

M: Hey guys, calm down. The dragon is my pet. I decide who can ride it.

J: No, I found it first.

R: No way. It’s my turn.

M: No no no I ride it today. (turning her head to the left side) wait, look at these guys. How come our savage island got three visitors today

R: I saw a broken ship far away.

J: Ha then they must encounter shipwrecked. Poor you.

M: Poor creatures. Did you get lost? Look at your outfits. You must come from the civilized world.

J: When you arrive at our savage paradise, there’s no way for you to leave. Look at our place. so natural so good.

M: Yeah. We don’t have tests and papers here. All we do is hunting, dancing and drinking. So good to stay in this savage island.

R: Hey, guys, they look a little bit confused and terrified now, why not we introduce ourselves first to them?

M: Hi, I’m lady Medusa.

J: Hi, I’m Jack.

R: And I’m Robinson. Let me show you around this place, but before we start our adventure, all of you please make sure that you have joined the group chat and also check you have opened the chat box already. Have everybody check your chat room is online? Please, give me some response?

((Wait for the visitors to open the group chat and the chat box.))

Task 1- Escape from the human eaters

R: Okay, let me guide you. I came here a long time ago, because I met a storm in my sail from my homeland, England, that’s why I came to this island. Life here is filled with adventure. And I also met my best friend, Friday here in my adventure, he is a native of this island. We become friend because I save his life from the other savages. However, we find that there is another native tribe in this island. Those people will eat outsiders as a kind of traditional ceremony.  Though I’m smart, but I cannot fight the human eaters only by myself.

I think you three, may have some talent. Please look at this board here.

((Walk to the board))

R: Can you guys see it? Uh, can someone give me some response?

((Wait for the international students to answer))

R: Okay, like I said, I cannot fight with those human eaters only by myself, so I need Friday’s help to recruite his people to fight against those human eaters together. And this board in front of you guys, is the thing that I use to teach Friday some simple English words. Because I cannot communicate with Fiday’s people with English. So I want to train him to be my translator. Unfortunately, someone erased the words on it, can you guys guess what words they are to let me see whether you guys are clever enough to join me? You can guess from the help of the pictures. And if you get the answer, please speak the answer loudly so I can hear you. Okay, start to guess!

((If the visitors’ answers are all correct.))

R: Yes, you guys get the right answer! You guys are smart enough to join me fighting those human eaters. Why not let me take you to see Friday. He will be happy to see you! Follow me!

Interlude 1

((Walk to find Friday, but Medusa stop him.))

M: You can’t intrude my place!

R: Well, well, well, here comes the naughty snake. Get out of my way, snake, I am the king of this island, I can do whatever I want. And now I want to take these smart guys to meet Friday! Last time he said he have been invited by you, so where is he?

M: Uh...he’s not here!

R: You’re lying, I can see through your face! Get out of my way! Where is he? There’s only a statue here. Where did yo hide him? You evil snake!

((Turn to Medusa))

Task 2 -The Monster Swamp

M: I won’t tell you! Ha, ha! Hey, why not you three guys come to my place? I just feel lonely since I first arrived here! I become tired of being the queen of monsters only. I also want to be a queen of beauty. No one will not be attracted by my appearance, not to mention these three good-looking people. But I will not compromise with that silly bastard Robinson who wants to civilize the residents in this savage. How dare he! I am the first person who comes to this savage place. And now he is gonna reverse the order of host and guest (喧賓奪主). I will not allow this kind of thing happen!

M: Visitors, I have to warn you. Men in the civilized world corrupt, and monsters shall rule the world. I believe that you have all seen my lovely dragon, from now on you will see more creatures in your adventure. You will know that men are just tiny pests in this world.

R: Medusa! Stop acting so radical. Your insights are just too shallow, just like Jack. I’ve told you many times, civilizing the savages can make the world of men a melting pot, we can live harmoniously together.   

M: Fuck off, Robinson! I believe that you’ve searched for your beloved friend Friday for a long time. Now I will show you where he is.

((show everyone the statue))

R: What? Friday!!!!! ((sobbing)) I hate you Medusa! I hate you.

M: Anyone who appreciates the civilization comes no good end!

M: Now, visitors, I will show you that being a savage, a friend of the savage creatures is the wisest choice.

J: Yeah, show them your charm also, since you’re the queen of the savages and monsters.

M: I like your words Jack! ((turn to the visitors)) Listen carefully visitors; now I will formally introduce myself to you guys. Be aware of my beautiful but fatal eyes, it’s very dangerous. I will tell you why later.

M:  I am Lady Medusa, the most beautiful but fatal woman in this savage place.

I was a princess in a faraway kingdom, before I was drifted to this place. My life was originally filled with luxurious food and clothes. But, it all changed overnight when the horrible day came 4 years ago. That night when I was wandering in my garden, a thick mist suddenly occurred. As soon as I figured out that there were mysterious creatures in the mist, I was grabbed by a big tentacle and was delivered by an invisible creature to this island. Few days passed, and I gradually found out that the creatures in the mist were originated from this island. After be bitten and poisoned by a huge snake when I was sleeping one night, my appearance changed. My foots were transformed into a huge snake tail. My hair also turned into many tiny but poisonous snakes. Most terrifying is that I can turned any creatures I glare into statue. With this ability, I no longer have to be afraid of those fearful creatures. I can rather pet them. But with this inhuman appearance, I can hardly return to the civilized world. I need more outsiders to accompany me here on the island.

M: If you cannot complete the mission I offer to you, you’ll have to stay in this savage island with us and celebrate the “savageness” with us.

Do you have courage to take this challenge? If so, let me introduce my task to you.

M: You guys have to play a game called “1, 2, 3, escape.” The rule is that you will start your walking here((showing the starting point)) and finish at here((showing the ending point)). And I will be standing over here with my body turning away. All you have to do for your final goal is to walk to me and sing few sentences from a song called Medusa from a Chinese well-known singer Jolin Tsai. I will teach you firsthand, don’t worry. When you sing out the lyrics, you have to type out the pin-yin of each sentence in our chat room. However, during your proceeding, I will turn myself around by saying “1, 2, 3, escape” When you hear the utterance, you have to stop walking until I turn around again. That means when you see me turning around again, you can keep moving. If you break the rules, you will be stared by my fatal eyes and be turned into statues by me just like Friday. Are you ready? Let’s start!

((After all the visitors arrive))

M: No! I can’t believe that you guys can escape my attraction. How dare you! But I have to stick to my promise and let you go. But, that man((pointing to Jack)) might not set you free so easily.  Jack, it’s your show time.

Interlude 2

J: Ha ha things are not that easy. Medusa, I will use my magic to let them stay here. Hey, the guy with jeans, the girl with a white dress and you, with white tshirt. You played so hard. run over and over again and sing. You must be hungry.  

R: Yeah I can tell they are hungry.

M: Oh I am hungry now. I want to eat BBQ.

j: Don’t worry. I already hunted some meat for you and did the BBQ. BBQ is over there. Follow me. I will show you how delicious they are.  

Task 3- Escape from Dragons

Location- Salvage beach

J: They smell so good. Can’t wait to eat them. Hey but for you guys. You need to get the shell first. Oh the shell the memory ten years ago. Lord of the flies. My friends and i took on the plane to get away from the war. But we were shot down over a deserted tropical island. It’s just here. We were trapped in the island.  We found a big conch shell to call everyone’s attention and whoever gets the shell has the rights to speak. I was in charge of hunting food . And Ralph was chosen to be our leader on the island. But He was a coward. He prefer civilized methods here and was afraid of the beast in the mountain.

R: You told me about Ralph’s story. He sounds really annoying.

J: Yeah We had a lot of quarrels.  So i declare myself as the leader of the new tribe. I cut off the head of a giant pig as the offering to the beast. You can see over there. And I decided to kill the coward Ralph. I asked the dragons to attack him and set the forest on fire so Ralph would be driven out of the forest. He fled to the beach and then the smoke was too huge. I couldn’t see what happened to him and he just disapper. But I still want to stay in this savage place. I love hunting.

M: You hunt everyday so we can have food. Love you Jack.

J: Oh the BBQ are almost overcooked. Time to decide who can eat them. Do you guys see peter piper board there?

M&R: Yes.

J: Everyone, read them out loud first.

((Everyone reads the tongue twister))

J: Well done. But the challenge is on the right ride. You need to touch the shell first. And then finish the other tongue twister. I guess you don’t understand the language. Ha ha it’s out savage dialect. Just say it.  Anyone who first touch the shell and finish the tongue twister can eat the BBQ and go back to the civilized society. But  the others need to stay here with me forever.

((after the visitors finish the task))

J: ((talks to the visitors))Well-done. You are the first one finishing my challenge. You can go back to the civilized world. And you two need to stay here with me. Come on. Our savage island is pretty good. You can enjoy the nature and hunting. And you won’t have exams, presentations, and term papers here. Don’t they sound quite attractive?
